Northern Lights Coaching Staff and Volunteer Coaches:

 

  • Damien Paulsen, head boy’s basketball coach at Albrook High School, has worked with Northern Lights the past nine years.  Damien, and his wife Jodi a Duluth East and UMD graduate, will work primarily with the top players in grades 10 and 11.

 

  • Brad Vieths, head girl’s coach at Cloquet High School, has worked with Northern Lights the past five years.  Brad’s specialty is working with and developing the skills of our youngest players primarily in grades 6-8.

 

  • Dan Zbosnik is in his 11th year as head girl’s basketball coach at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College and has led the Lady Norse to post season play seven out of the past eight years.  This will be Dan’s first year assisting Northern Lights basketball.

 

  • Brooke Chaffee, a 2003 graduate of Hinckley-Finlayson High School, Brooke has just finished her first year as head girl’s basketball coach at Two Harbor High School.  Brooke first played basketball for Northern Lights during her junior year.

 

  • Laura Sylvester, a 2001 graduate of Albrook High School who played four years at UMD, played basketball for Northern Lights starting in her tenth grade year.  After using up her Northern Lights eligibility she has volunteered to help develop the shooting styles of our younger players.

 

  • Kim Wagers, a 2003 graduate of Moose Lake MN High School, was captain this past season at UMD.  Kim first started playing basketball for Northern Lights during her tenth grade year and has helped develop the younger post players the last few years for Northern Lights.

 

  • Kylee Smith, a 2006 graduate of Cromwell High School, red shirted her first year at UMD has played AAU basketball for Northern Lights since the ninth grade.

 

  • Kelsey Hewitt, red shirted as a first-year freshman at UMD in 2006-07, this 6’1” forward from Chippewa Falls, WI will be assisting Northern Lights for the first time.

 

  • Erin Niles, a sophomore at Saint Scholastica and 2006 graduate of Grand Rapids, has played basketball for Northern Lights since ninth grade.

 

  • Craig Lipinski, long time basketball official and volunteer coach in Proctor, will help run practices and drills for the Northern Lights players.  This is Craig’s third year assisting Northern Lights.
